Khiva ↔ Nukus via Four Fortresses

This is a one-way tour that can be booked in either direction:

Flexible Start Time

This is a one-way tour: it starts in one city and ends in the other — Khiva to Nukus, or Nukus to Khiva.

The tour can start at any time you want, with pick-up from your location (hotel, airport, or train station) and drop-off at your destination in the other city. We highly recommend the following option:

  • Morning (08:00 / 09:00): Start after breakfast to explore the fortresses during the cooler hours and arrive at your destination by evening.

Route

  • Departure – Pick-up from your location in Khiva (2 hrs to Ayaz Kala) or Nukus (40 min to Chilpik Kala)
  • Ayaz Kala – One of the largest fortresses of ancient Khorezm, perched dramatically on a desert hilltop
  • Akcha Lake: A beautiful blue lake in the desert. Perfect for a lunch and photo stop.
  • Toprak Kala – The ancient capital of Khorezm, with remains of a royal palace
  • Kizil Kala – The “Red Fortress,” rebuilt on the eve of the Mongol invasions
  • Chilpik Kala – The ancient Zoroastrian Tower of Silence, rising dramatically above the Amu Darya
  • Drop-off – At your location in Nukus or Khiva
